April 2026:
We are pleased to welcome Dr. Md Saifur Rahman to our lab as a postdoc! Saifur received his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Texas A&M University. Welcome, Saifur!

In the new year, we’re thrilled to welcome Jialin Liu, a new BME Master’s student! She earned her B.S. in BME from Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Welcome, Jialin!

October 2025:
We’re growing! This month, we welcome Xiaohan Alex Tang, a rotation PhD student from the CMM program, and Ziyan Lily Lin, a BME undergraduate student. We’re also excited to welcome our lab’s first postdoc, Dr. Yusheng Zhang, to the team. Welcome aboard, Alex, Lily, and Yusheng!

Xiao is honored to be named to the MIT Technology Review Innovators Under 35 (TR35) Asia Pacific!

August 2025:
We’re thrilled to welcome our very first PhD student, Zhengguang Zhu, who joins us from Northwestern University!
We’re excited to have Vivek Radhakrishnan join our team as a BME Master’s student!
We’re also excited to welcome Nicholas Schaffer as our new lab technician and Thoya Raman as a BME undergraduate student!

June 2025:
We received grant funding from the Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund! Xiao presented a poster at the Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund Felicitation Ceremony.

December 2023:
Xiao has been awarded the prestigious Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute Interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Scholar Award. This two-year fellowship will support her interdisciplinary research.

December 2022:
Xiao’s kirigami-inspired electronics for human brain assembloids was featured at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Winter Conference on Development and 3D Modeling of the Human Brain.

December 2019:
Xiao’s neuron-like electronics was exhibited in the Materials Research Society’s Science as Art Competition.

May 2019:
Science covered our research on neuron-like electronics, recently published in Nature Materials. The article, titled “Slender, neuron-size probes aim for better recordings of brain’s electrical chatter”, highlights the potential of our work to enhance neural recordings.
